lisist

the problem with isis is not that they're beheading americans. it's that they're beheading the wrong americans. ie people we kinda sorta care about. there are plenty of americans they could disenkopfenate and nobody'd object. cause they'd be doing us a favor. start with the folks we just don't seem to be able to do anything about like the wall streeters who pump and dumped the entire us economy to enrich themselves. and the religious zealots in this country. starting with that "church" that thinks the god who loves you so much he sacrificed his own son so you don't go to hell hates you so much you're going to hell. and more than a few right wing zealot talk show hosts. the ones who need to re-take basic sex ed anatomy can go first. the warmongers from recent administrations. supreme court ideologues masquerading as justices. the supply side economics people. the folks on death row after the innocence project permits. the folks who put the folks on death row who were later cleared by the innocence project. any cop who's lied on a police report. the dumbasses who stood in the way of adopting the metric system. anti-vaxxers. all of em. and good riddance. the sovereign citizens. the quiverfullers. course for them you could just send the guys and let isis cut off their little heads. call it a compromise.

sermon

when i was a kid a pastor gave a sermon about a guy on a boat. it sank. and he's bobbing around in the water praying to god to save him. soon enough, a sailboat comes along offering assistance. which the guy waves off. god will save me. later a power boat comes along. again it's waved off. god will save me. then the coast guard comes along. again, he refuses help. god will save me. finally, a helicopter tries to pluck him from the sea. god will save me. but the man drowns. and goes to heaven. where he asks, god! why didn't you save me?!?! to which god responds, i sent you three boats and a helicopter. i'm reminded of this story when i see the anti-vaxers being stupid. their kids are gonna die. and they're gonna die. and they'll stand there at the pearly gates demanding from god, why did you let my kids die from such a horrible disease?!?!?! to which god will reply, i sent you vaccines. and doctors to administer them. and the internet. so you can educate yourself enough to identify the false prophets.

problutions

after climate change, the world is facing a couple of pretty scary problems: the rise of religious militants and deadly diseases. hrm. seems like one of those problems could be a solution to the other. damn, wouldn't that be karmic justice. isis fighters bleeding to death from every orifice of their body. dreamer me. they'd be able to enforce quarantines in a way civilized folks would rather die than implement. and probably would. ah well. some thought experiments are enjoyable on their own. course this isn't completely a thought experiment. consider that most anti-vaxers are also religious nut jobs. if that movement keeps growing, we'll get to helplessly watch their children die. then what? i told you so.
